Where to Donate

If you want to donate blood or find out if you are eligible, you need to know where to go. In San Antonio, TX, we are fortunate enough to have a world-class facility: the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center. It is located on IH-10 West just before Loop 410 on the northside. You can simply go to the STBTC and tell them you want to donate; there is no need for an appointment.

Other options, especially for those of you who do not live in San Antonio, include the Red Cross, other local blood banks or community blood drives. In San Antonio, there are also mobile blood donation busses that visit organizations around town and if you see one, you can go right on in. The following is a partial list of annual blood drives in San Antonio:

  • Family First - KENS 5 - January
  • Project Amor - KSAT 12 - April
  • Rock and Roll Up your Sleeve - 99.5 KISS - August

Just look for flyers in your community; blood drives are often held at businesses, churches, gyms and schools. UTSA usually has at least one blood drive each semester with the blood mobile parked on the south side of campus by the University Center and MS Building in the faculty parking lot.
